AquaTerra Launches Work at Height Rescue Kit

May 22, 2009

AquaTerra Solutions, the Aberdeen-based provider of work at height-related services, has broadened its range of rescue equipment with the addition of a new lightweight ready-to-use rescue kit for working at height and confined space operations. The AquaTerra Rescue Kit (ARK) is a rescue system that can be deployed directly from a hi-vis bag and is manually-operated to raise and lower casualties.

Made from stainless steel and high grade aluminium components, the ARK is based on a 4:1 ratio pulley system that can be operated by one person to safely raise and lower two people simultaneously. The kit is fitted with a hardwearing low stretch rope that provides a maximum standard working length of 10 - 40m. The system is set up directly from the rescue bag which has shoulder straps to enable hands-free transportation and use.

Mark Pearce, Training Director at AquaTerra Solutions says, "We offer a range of products to complement the training that we provide. The development and launch of the ARK was in response to demand from our clients who required a lightweight rescue kit that could be transported easily to difficult to reach places, yet wouldn't compromise on performance. The ARK has been well-received by clients so far, with orders from operators, drillers and dive support vessels in the UK, West Africa and the Middle East.

"The ARK has a number of key benefits. The system is pre-assembled and ready to operate, so it can be taken straight from the bag, attached to an anchor point and is immediately ready for use. This is particularly important in hazardous situations where a person is in an unstable environment or where he or she is seriously hurt and is requiring urgent medical attention. The quicker the casualty can be recovered to a place of safety, the better. Equally important is the fact that the ARK is a very simple system to use and it requires only minimal training to use it safely."

There are also several built-in safety features to the system. The ARK system's components comply with EN standards. The system is suitable for most environments and heat-resistant rope is also available for operations carried out in high temperature areas.
